The
Appeal was established in the name of Ron Smith by his widow, Margaret G. Smith,
in response to Ron’s wish that cancer patients in North Wales should not have to
travel outside Wales for treatment.
Our
success as a campaigning group assisted in the procurement and opening of the
first Cancer Treatment Centre with Radiotherapy in North Wales, in June
2000.
In 2003, the Appeal exceeded £ 2,000,000, the amount set as our “Aim” in 1991. Also in 2003, we contributed £900,000 for the purchase of a third Linear Accelerator Radiotherapy Machine for the Centre but the demands for help continue so we shall go on raising money.
We are
very proud to say that all Appeal workers, both lay and medical, are entirely
unpaid volunteers.
Any
expenses such as printing and postage come from less than 10% of any bank
interest.
